After much research I decided on the Kauai Retro-Fit Shower System from Pulse, even though there were some bad reviews. Upon receiving the Kauai I found that it was well built with chrome plated brass tubing and a minimum of plastic parts. It installed very easily with o-rings and set screws as opposed to threaded fittings. This is actually the Kauai II and has been redesigned, I think most of the reviews are on the original Kauai that had fine thread fittings. The diverter valve worked perfectly, contrary to many reviews. I would definitely recommend this shower system to anyone who wants to use their existing shower valve and not change out their plumbing. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful  Good news, Bad news, By lagirl55 (Oregon) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: PULSE Showerspas 1011-CH Kauai Retro-Fit Rain Shower System with Handshower and Adjustable Slide Bar, Chrome Finish (Tools & Home Improvement) I bought this showerhead Fall 2009 for a remodel of our existing bathroom.The bad news--as everyone else has noted, there is a major problem with the actuator valve, resulting in a pitiful trickle from the handheld showerhead. The manufacturer told me they'd had problems with it and sent me a new valve. It was worse than the original valve. The good news--we paid $19 for a two-way, add-on generic shower diverter valve at a big-box home improvement store and the results are amazing. The big rainfall showerhead is delightful, and the handheld shower has plenty of power, with a massage feature that really pounds away sore muscles. But please note that while we are now delighted with our showerheads, this was after my husband jerry-rigged the thing. The manufacturer's valve is worthless. The rain shower works OK, but the handshower also has zero trickle of flow, as someone else mentioned. Called the company and they said they would send a new diverter. The plumber checked it all out and said that could be the only possible cause. It also water hammers loudly when you switch between the two. I'm giving it two more weeks to receive the new part--don't know why it is taking 6 weeks to receive (may just be stall tactics). It will be going back if the replacement part doesn't fix the problem. Only reason it hasn't come down and gone back already is the cost of the plumber already spent--won't be getting that back! |
